Earlier this week, the House and Senate Ethics committees released their report summarizing activity from 2011. Roll Call reports that the committees looked into very few ethics issues. In the Senate, out of the five that were pursued, none resulted in any disciplinary action:

The Senate’s annual report shows that its Ethics panel received 77 requests to review alleged violations, 58 of which were dismissed because of lack of jurisdiction and an additional 14 that were not pursued because there was insufficient evidence that a violation of Senate rules had occurred. None of the matters under review resulted in disciplinary action or public admonition.

Unsurprisingly, Congress has done little to clean up its own behavior. Meanwhile, Congressman Mel Watt, a Democrat from North Carolina, has attempted to cut the funding of the House ethics committee.
