Our friends at Color of Change have just announced that Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) has decided to leave the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC):

“This week I spoke with an executive at Blue Cross Blue Shield who told me that the company did not renew its membership in the American Legislative Exchange Council this year, and we followed up with the company to confirm they are no longer a member of ALEC. We applaud BCBS for ending its relationship with this shadowy DC organization that would rather have our law makers work for corporations than the people.

BCBS’s departure means that at least eleven corporations or major foundations have left ALEC.

This is good news about these corporations leaving ALEC. But it’s even more important (1) we are learning which of these corporations have been quietly supporting ALEC when they could keep a low profile; and (2) we remember these corporations’ defections were not due to them discovering new truths they didn’t know before, or showing morality. They were caught.
